Aquileia, about 50 km far from Bibione, is a prestigious archaeological area, declared an Unesco World Heritage Site.
The excavations have revealed ruins of the Roman forum, a basilica, a necropolis, a mosaic pavement and foundations of houses, statues of the Via Sacra, marketplaces, city walls, a river harbour and a great mausoleum. Also the magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta with its majestic bell tower (73 meters high), the National Archaeological Museum and the Paleo Christian Museum are worth seeing.
The lovers of good food can enjoy themselves taking part at the great event “A tavola con gli antichi romani”: every year, at the end of summer, there is a big public performance where you can taste many dishes cooked like at the Roman times.
